Types of Craft

Sailing craft permitted on the water fall into three categories: dinghies, sailboards and canoes. Like most clubs we do have some restrictions for instance dinghies must be monohulls. We currently have over 40 classes of boat registered at the Club, ranging from Optimists (excellent for teaching small children to sail) to more high performance boats such as RS400 and 600s. A very wide selection of dinghies can be seen on the water including SuperNovas, Mirrors, GP14s, Solo.

The area of water permits racing and cruising and training to be carried out simultaneously without detriment to either. Sailing takes place at weekends during the winter season, and on weekdays and most evenings, as well as weekend during the summer.

Racing takes place at the weekend during the winter, and on Thursday evenings and at weekends during the summer for all classes, on Tuesday and Friday evenings for Class racing.

The Club hosts Open Meets for its most popular classes, and annually stages a prestige event, the Bartley Burnout.

TRAINING

The club is an approved RYA training centre that caters for beginners and experienced sailors of all ages and at all levels..
Training courses provide a great means of getting started in this exciting sport of sailing whilst making friends and getting to know more people. Each starter course includes a three-month free membership. Our club members will provide new members with help and advice after the course finishes to get them underway and make the most of their new skills.
