The Bartley Burn Out on 12th November was a great success with 63 boats sailing in a force 2/3 and with sunshine. With this number of boats on the water it provided a fantastic spectacle at this popular sailing club on the outskirts of Birmingham. In addition to the sailors there were many families and friends supporting the competitors creating a great atmosphere. The event consisted of two pursuit races one of a hundred minutes and one of seventy-five minutes. Competitors came from as far a field as Littleton sailing club near London and Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club and lots of clubs in between. Bartley Sailing Club, being the home club provided 43 of the entries and it was good to see all classes of boats represented. There were the traditional classes of GP14s, Mirrors, Solos and Merlin Rockets together with the new classes such as RS200s and RS400s. The competition was closely fought with only one point between each of the first four boats. The overall winners were Andy Davis and Tom Jeffcote from Bartley SC sailing a Merlin Rocket. One point behind was Vanda Young from Littleton SC sailing a Solo and further one point behind in third was Will Gulliver from Northampton SC sailing a Phantom. Special mention must be made of the fourth placed boat, which was David Moore and brother Jack Moore from Blithfield SC sailing a Mirror. Both boys are under 16, but made the most of the changing conditions in a lessening wind by leading from start to finish in the second race. The overall winners Andy Davis & Tom Jeffcote received the Interlink Express Trophy and a cheque for £150 from Mrs Cath Reddington of Interlink. The Bartley Commodore Neil Peacock thanked Mrs Reddington and the other sponsors who assisted in presenting their prizes including:-
